Scratching The Tiger’s Back

1.       What comes to your mind when you think of the tiger? Which lines tell us this?
Answer: When we think of the tiger, the thing that comes to our mind is his fierce attack. We come to know about this from the line: Regrettably, the tiger is known for fierce attack.

2.       Is the tiger always violent and dangerous?
Answer: No. The tiger is not always violent and dangerous.

3.       What influences the tiger’s mood?
Answer: The tiger’s mood is influenced by the meals he eats.

4.       What is he like on a winter afternoon?
Answer: On a winter afternoon, the tiger is very lazy. His skin doesn’t glow, and his striped doesn’t blaze.

5.       What is the message that a quiet and peaceful tiger conveys to us?
Answer: The message that a quiet and peaceful tiger conveys to us is that he is also made by God as we are. He also has good and bad things just like us. He also conveys a message that he is a so calm creature that one can scratch his back.

6.       In what ways is the tiger like a human being?
Answer: Tiger is like human being. Human beings are not perfect. They have good qualities as well as bad qualities. Human beings are made by the God. Sometimes, we human are very nice to people around us, and sometimes, we treat them bad. It all depends on our mood. Similarly, the tiger is the creation of God. Tiger is also not perfect. Tiger also has good and bad dwelling in him.

7.       What do the colours gold and black stand for?
Answer: The colour ‘gold’ stands for ‘good’ and the colour ‘black’ stands for ‘evil’.

8.       “Tonight, I will say nothing. You can scratch my back.”
a)      Who said this to whom?
Answer: Tiger said this to the narrator (the human being).
b)      What makes him say this?
Answer: The similarities between the tiger and the human being (that both are same in many aspects) made him say so.

What is the message conveyed by the tiger in this poem?
1.       “The death of the planet isn’t far.”
a)      Who say this?
Answer: Tiger says this.
b)      Why does the speaker say so?
Answer: The tiger says so because the tiger is on the verge of extinction. He is about to get extinct from the planet earth. If the tiger would get extinct, the entire ecosystem would be imbalanced. The forest will die, and eventually the earth would have nothing.

2.       Why is our planet dependent on forests?
Answer: Our planet is dependent on forests because forests are the life. Millions of different species of animals live in forest. These animals are dependent on each other for the food chain. Thus, the entire life of earth is the result of the food chain maintained by these animals. Without them, there wouldn’t be any grass, trees, greenery, and life. Thus, the earth would die.

3.       Why do tigers end up in “Skin market” and the “Bone Bazaar”? Who sends them there? How do you think we can stop this?
Answer: Tigers are poached illegally for their skins and different body parts like bones, teeth, etc. The poachers illegally sell the tiger remains in ‘skin markets’ and the ‘bone bazaar’. Thus it is said that the tigers end up in “Skin market” and the “Bone Bazaar”.
We can stop this by saying “NO” to tiger skin products or anything which is made from tiger. We can also stop this by creating awareness amongst people about the important role tigers play in maintaining the eco-balance.
